Dr. Johns joined the administrative staff and faculty of the Seminary
as Director of Institutional Research and Associate Professor of
Discipleship and Christian Formation in 1995, having served as adjunct
faculty since 1985. Prior to that he had focused on congregational
life and pastoral supervision of discipleship ministries. He has
served as a pastor for eighteen years in North Dakota, Kentucky,
and Tennessee. He continues to pastor a congregation which he and
his wife planted in 1989 through a Bible study group in their home.
He also served for eight years as a Minister of Education in congregations
in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
His involvement in theological education has included serving as
an instructor at Northwest Bible College for three years, a Garrett
Fellow and visiting instructor at the Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary, a part-time instructor for Lee College, and a visiting
instructor for schools in Mexico, Guatemala, and Korea.
He has published articles in academic journals. Dr. Johns contributed
to volumes on discipleship of children, discipleship of teens, and
family ministry. Professional involvements include serving as Chair
of the Praxis Interest Group of the Society for Pentecostal Studies
and participating in interdenominational dialogue groups. He currently
serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the
Appalachian Ministries Educational Resource Center (AMERC). He serves
on the Board of Directors of the Bradley Initiative for Church and
Community (BICC), a faith-based community development organization
and he serves on the Band of Directors for the Lift and Redemption
Center.
