Dr. Archer joined the faculty in 2001. Prior to coming to the Church of God Theological Seminary, he served as an adjunct faculty for 5 years at Ashland Theological Seminary and was pastor of Mohicanville Community Church. His wife Melissa served as co-pastor of Mohicanville and was a full-time faculty member of Ashland Theological Seminary teaching New Testament Greek. They have two sons, Trent and Tyler.
The Archers are committed to pastoral ministry and have served 3 different churches as Senior Pastors during the past 12 years (two Assembly of God and one independent). They resigned their pastorate and teaching positions in order to respond to God’s call to come to the Church of God Theological Seminary. Currently, they are members of Woodward Avenue Church of God in Athens, Tennessee.
Archer is concerned with integrating academic work and pastoral ministry. He is an active member in the Society for Pentecostal Studies, where he has presented papers concerning Pentecostal Theology and Hermeneutics. He is also a member of the Society of Biblical Literature. His monograph, A Pentecostal Hermeneutic for the Twenty-First Century: Spirit, Scripture and Community (T&T Clark International, 2004), is an important contribution to Pentecostal hermeneutics and theological methods. He has published academic articles in the Journal of Pentecostal Theology, PNEUMA, and the International Journal of Systematic Theology. |
