Dr. Alexander comes to the faculty of the Seminary with roots deep in Pentecostalism, as her grandparents, Rev. E. L. and Lena Newton, were Church of God ministers of long-standing in North Carolina. Dr. Alexander has taught Bible and Theology at the middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. In 1996, she was honored by Furman University for her excellence in teaching and in 1999 she was awarded the Faithfulness in Teaching Award by Lee University External Studies.
In addition to her other academic training, Dr. Alexander has completed a doctoral thesis entitled “Models of Pentecostal Healing and Practice in Light of Early Twentieth Century Pentecostalism”. Her published work has appeared in the Ashland Theological Journal, the Asbury Theological Journal and the Journal of Pentecostal Theology. In 2006, Pentecostal Healing: Models of Theology and Practice was published in the Pentecostal Supplement Series by Deo. This book received the “2007 Award of Excellence” from The Foundation for Pentecostal Scholarship. In addition, she co-authored with Dr. R. Hollis Gause Women in Leadership: A Pentecostal Perspective published by the Center for Pentecostal Leadership and Care. Dr. Alexander presented a paper on healing at the Azusa Street Mission at the Azusa Centennial Celebration in Los Angeles, California. She is History Interest Group Leader for the Society for Pentecostal Studies and has been involved with the Society’s Oneness-Trinitarian Dialogue.
Along with her husband, Rev. Corky Alexander, she has been active in the planting of churches in Atlanta, GA and on Aquidneck Island, RI and in pastoral ministry in North Carolina and Tennessee. Dr. Alexander is a very gifted singer and exhibits an extraordinary commitment to the life and ministry of the local church. She and her husband have three daughters, Hope, Emma, and Leslie. Hope is married to Josh Butcher, a COGTS graduate and they have one child, Wilson Alexander (Lex) Butcher.
