Sang Ehil Han, Ph.D.

Assistant Academic Dean Assistant Professor of Theology and Spirituality
2002 - Present

  • B.A., Lee University, 1986
  • M.Div., Church of God Theological Seminary, 1989
  • S.T.M., Yale University, the Divinity School, 1993
  • Ph.D., Emory University, 2004

Prior to coming to the Church of God Theological Seminary as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Han taught at Han Young Theological University as a full-time member of the theology faculty for four years, during which time, he also served as the Dean of the School of Theology and Pastoral Counseling.

His teaching ministry began as a part-time lecturer at Han Young Theological University [1989-1990], Lee University (1993) and the Church of God Theological Seminary (1993-1994 & 1997-1998). Dr. Han's doctoral work was focused on Spirit-Christology and its soteriological relevance to particular contextual issues: A Revisionist Spirit-Christology in Korean Culture. The wide range of his current theological interests in writing, which are reflective of the doctoral work, include the issues of theological hermeneutics, Wesleyan-Pentecostal soteriology, contextualization, and Pentecostal pneumatology.

Having been an ordained bishop in the Church of God since 1991, his ministerial background reflects an international flavor ranging from various youth ministries among Korean American congregations in the United States to senior pastorship at Myun-Mok First Church of God in Seoul, Korea. During his stay in Korea (1998-2001), his academic involvement led him to serve as the Vice-President for the Korean Society for Pentecostal Studies along with being an active participant in the Korean Society of Evangelical Theology.

He is currently an active member of the Society for Pentecostal Studies and the American Academy of Religion. Denominationally, he has served on the School of Ministry Board. He currently serves on the General Education Board (2002-present). In 2003, he chaired the Planning Committee for the International Pentecostal Symposium, sponsored by the Church of God Division of Education. Other current denominational involvement includes serving as the Administrative Bishop of the Church of God in Korea. He has also been involved in ecumenical dialogues such as the Church of God – Mennonites dialogues, the Christian Churches Together in the U.S.A., and the Global Christian Forum. Since 2002, he has been a member of the Continuation Committee for the Global Christian Forum.
